A Little About Me…
My name is Courtney and I am a graphic designer in Connecticut. I recently finished my Masters in Graphic Design at Savannah College of Art and Design and have started my own design business, CreativSolution. My favorite part of being self-employed (besides making my own hours and working in my pjs) is being involved from project start to finish; initial meeting and contract to printer.
All my life I have loved school, so I am very happy to be teaching part-time in the Interactive Digital Design program at Quinnipiac University (same program I got my bachelor’s from)! The students and faculty are a huge source of inspiration for me, and help keep me on my toes in terms of staying on top of the latest and greatest in the design world. I am particularly interested in typography and green design practices.
Being a freelance designer that does not need to formally report to work, I find a huge need to achieve balance and discipline in my life in order to live the life I love! What does this mean? It means that I rely on some basic life necessities to maintain sanity and fuel my creativity: exercise, cooking/nutrition, sports, reading, traveling, spending time with family, friends, & my awesome, supportive boyfriend, Phil!
My Approach to Design
I believe that at the core of every great, effective design is a well-defined strategy. My range of capabilities include collateral, marketing materials, identity systems, publications, catalogs, electronic publishing, websites, and packaging. However, I specialize in print and digital formats for engineers and architects, as well as educational institutions.
For engineers and architects, I help show off their work by creating a strong identity, pamphlets, and a great website of their projects and awards that is frequently updated. As a result, they can present themselves confidently and get more jobs and prospective employees.
With schools, I help enhance their student experience by creating print and interactive learning materials like websites, animations, and interactive PDFs. Consequently, they get a better response from their students because their material comes across clearer and more interesting.
Green is My Favorite Color!
Yes, it is…but I am also dedicated to ethical business practices and cost-effective green design. I am very conscious of the impact that my actions have on the environment and try to act responsibly to minimize negative effects. Be on the lookout for my green tips for choosing better materials for design, home, and everything in between. Having a low eco-impact no longer means sacrificing user experience or adding excessive cost! Awesome, right?!
